A spotlight leaves the chosen area bright and covers the rest of the screen with a dim layer. It guides attention without enlarging anything.
Place a transparent circular mask over a translucent dark layer, then move the mask to the target. In the demo, the opening travels between panels and also responds to pointer movement.
Zoom to element enlarges and reframes its target; a spotlight keeps the original size and position. Do not dim so much that information outside the opening becomes unreadable.
When to use
Use it to emphasize one area briefly when zooming would hide too much surrounding context.
