A moving ball seems to hang in the air as one chosen image is held. Other parts of the edited video can continue while that frame stays on screen.

Choose the frame to hold, then extend a still of it on the timeline, or use the editor’s frame-hold control. In the demo, the subject stays in place for a moment while the timeline playhead keeps moving.

A freeze frame inserts a still section into the edit. Pausing a player stops playback and its playhead altogether. Decide whether audio or other layers should continue, and hold the image only as long as the emphasis needs.

When to use

Use it to introduce a person, hold a decisive action, or give viewers time to inspect a detail. Unlike pausing a player, other layers in the edit can keep running.
