A camera at the end of a long arm traces a broad arc; as it rises, the nearby courtyard gives way to rooftops beyond. A crane or jib move changes height and viewing direction together.

Move the arm around its pivot for a practical shot, or keyframe the boom angle and camera endpoint. Make the camera's curved path legible in a screen illustration.

The path and view change more than in a straight pedestal move. Leave room for the full sweep and decide what the ending frame should reveal.

When to use

Use it to reveal the scale of a place or move the view from a person to their surroundings. Plan a safe path and a clear final composition.
