Take a step down a hallway and the person ahead grows while the far door seems to shift away. A dolly move travels the camera forward or backward through space.

Move a camera on a track or dolly, or keyframe its position in a 3D scene. A simple graphic can suggest the move with parallax: nearby objects change size more than the distant background.

A digital zoom changes the field of view without moving the camera. A dolly also changes perspective, so let the subject and background shift together in a readable way.

When to use

Use it to build emotion by moving closer or reveal context by pulling back. Check the available path and focus before the move.
