A bright frame appears for about the time it takes to blink, then disappears. The brief burst can mark a cut or accent a beat.

Insert one or two white frames on the timeline, or place an opaque white layer over the shot for a very short interval. Align it to a beat or the peak of an action and return immediately to the picture.

A dip to white visibly travels into and out of a white image; a flash is much shorter. Repeated or long flashes can be uncomfortable, so keep their intensity and frequency low.

When to use

Use it only when a beat or action peak needs a brief accent. Avoid repeated flicker, which can be uncomfortable for sensitive viewers.
