It is like slowly dimming stage lights until the scene sinks into black, then letting the next scene emerge from darkness. The empty frame can signal the end or beginning of a section.

Keyframe a clip's brightness or opacity down to black, then bring the next clip up from black. A longer gap between the two fades leaves more time in darkness.

A dissolve overlaps two shots, while this fade places black between them. Save it for a chapter break or meaningful pause; using it on every short scene can make the film feel choppy.

When to use

Use it to close a chapter or leave a longer pause in time. Repeating it over short gaps can make the sequence feel stalled.
